Lockhart - 125 Years Birthday Celebration - Camp Oven

Date - TBC

In 1906, young men started arriving at the new Lockhart Showground and set up camp. They were waiting for the North Brookong Land Ballot in 1907. The ballot was for 14 blocks of land at North Brookong, which was being sold by Brookong Station just to the west of Lockhart, out along Spanish Avenue. They cooked their meals in camp ovens. They played music and sang songs. They told tall stories and recited bush poetry. Lifelong friendships were established with many of the original landholders’ descendants in the district today. As a part of Lockhart’s Quasquicentennial Celebration Weekend, you can relive this time in Lockhart’s history at the Lockhart Showground on Saturday April 2nd from 5.30 pm. The drawing of the ballot will be re-enacted when descendants from the successful Settlers will be in attendance. Activities includes: Camp Oven Meal, Traditional music, Bush Poetry, Stories from the past – both tall and true, Re-enactment of ballot, History display. BYO Chair

Cost: Adult $25.00 and Child $10.00
